Karikal Mahal: A Silent Witness
Unlock the secrets within the walls of a time-worn treasure that is Karikal Mahal. One of Singapore’s oldest heritage landmarks, the mansion was built in the early 1900s by Kader Sultan, a visionary businessman from Karaikal, India. Dubbed the “Cattle King” for his wealth in the cattle trade, his success crumbled after a scandal involving his workers and the tragic suicide of his son, forcing him into bankruptcy and suffering the loss of the mansion.
In 1939, the mansion became home to the enchanting Malayan Magic Circle, a brotherhood of magicians who hosted dazzling performances and brought theatrical magic to its golden age.
As the echoes of WWll rang out, the abandoned estate turned into a prison for European internees as they sought solace in the Karikal Chronicle, its poignant pages a tribute to the strength of the human spirit in times of darkness. The series shines a light on the fascinating lives of those who once called this grand edifice home.
