Keith Chua on Income Tax (Amendment) Bill
Singapore is moving towards a society that is ready to give more, said NMP Keith Chua. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 3), he said the Government has laid one foundational piece for the coming years. “We should not delay demonstrating our collective responsibility to play our part,” he said. He wanted to know if the Government would consider a longer runway to enable society to achieve a stronger collaborative model of philanthropy. Mr Chua said the demands of an ageing society and aspirations for a better quality of life and the desire that no one gets left behind will need the active participation of both Government and people. He urged the Government to consider the approach of co-creation for public consultations, as it potentially enables wider buy-in at the early stages and ensures that both top-down and ground-up voices can be heard and considered for a comprehensive picture of Singapore. He said achieving this may require asking difficult questions and agreeing to systemic changes when necessary.
