Koh Poh Koon on review of food safety regime

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is reviewing its food safety regime to ensure that penalties are adequate and effective to deter violations, as part of the upcoming Food Safety and Security Bill. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment Koh Poh Koon said this in reply to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Monday (Sep 9). He stressed that food safety is a joint responsibility, involving industry and consumers. He urged them to play a part by adopting safe food handling practices and being vigilant about food choices, particularly for those that cater food to vulnerable groups like the elderly and children. Dr Koh also highlighted the measures put in place by SFA to maintain a high standard of food hygiene and food safety.
