Lee Hong Chuang on Info-communications Media Development Authority (Amendment) Bill

12:14 Min

Singapore must continue to take a calibrated approach in protecting its information environment while remaining a trusted and attractive hub for media investment and innovation, said MP Lee Hong Chuang. He noted that influence today is not just about ownership, but about algorithms shaping what people see online. So, issues such as transparency, accountability and trust in the system will become increasingly important. As regulations are strengthened, smaller players like start-ups, independent creators and community platforms must also not be crowded out, he said, as a healthy media ecosystem must be a diverse one. He spoke in parliament on Thursday (May 7).
