Lee Hong Chuang on Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
In parliament on Tuesday (Aug 4), MP Lee Hong Chuang made three suggestions to the government regarding new road traffic offences, from the perspective of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) such as logistics, transport, delivery and food and beverage (F&B) operators. First, introduce an “education-first” period before full enforcement of the new offence of holding a mobile phone while driving. Many drivers have a habit of checking navigation or delivery apps while driving and this will take time to change, Mr Lee said. Second, work with the Land Transport Authority and industry to develop a universal phone mount suitable for commercial vehicles and provide support to SMEs to retrofit their fleets. Third, partner the F&B sector to educate the public on new lower alcohol limits.
