Leon Perera on Sedition (Repeal) Bill
In Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 5), MP Leon Perera said he does not oppose the Sedition (Repeal) Bill but voiced concern over several areas. One is on the time limit to reduce the risk of a suspect being investigated for too long after the event and when relevant evidence may not be fully available. He said the provision of a time limit for prosecution does not seem to apply anymore. If this is the case, what is the basis for making this change, he asked. He also sought clarification on the issue of disobedience to the law. He asked what would constitute an offence of civil disobedience.
