Leong Mun Wai on Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Bill

16:35 Min

The Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Bill is an important and complex Bill that must not be “rushed through Parliament”, said NCMP Leong Mun Wai in the House on Monday (Oct 4). Saying there has not been time for parliamentarians and the public to evaluate its far-reaching implications, he called for passage of the Bill to be delayed, public consultations to be held and a select committee to be appointed to scrutinise the Bill closely. Mr Leong said enough resources have been deployed for national security and existing laws already give the authorities extensive powers to fight foreign interference. He urged the Government to educate Singaporeans about online foreign interference so that they can be its “eyes and ears”.
