Liang Eng Hwa on Energy (Resilience Measures and Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill

The major transition to a more efficient, resilient and sustainable energy architecture for Singapore requires new executive powers for industry changes and restructuring, said MP Liang Eng Hwa. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 2), he said it is important to give the Energy Market Authority the powers to take decisive actions and manage essential electricity infrastructure. He suggested that critical infrastructure like power generation, which has a direct bearing on the economy, security and people, should be under a nationalised company to safeguard long-term national interests. On the push for lower emissions, he said instead of broad-based powers, there should be more targeted measures and differentiated approaches.
