Liang Eng Hwa on Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Bill

09:04 Min

Singapore must ensure that there is no foreign interference in its politics, said MP Liang Eng Hwa. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Oct 4), he said it is necessary to update the laws to deal with new threats. He said the business community can understand why the Government needs to institute new safeguards against foreign interference. As key stakeholders in the economy and society, it is in the interest of businesses to see political and social stability. He said while the intent and purposes of the proposed anti-foreign interference law are clear, there are some who still feel that it makes Singapore seem "less welcoming". He asked if the Government will address these concerns and how the proposed law will impact Singapore's status as a global hub.
