Lim Biow Chuan on Women's Charter (Amendment) Bill

17:42 Min

Why is there a need to permit divorce by mutual agreement if couples can already divorce without fault via separation for a statutory period? MP Lim Biow Chuan raised this question in Parliament on Monday (Jan 10) during the debate on the Women's Charter (Amendment) Bill. He was concerned that the change would lead to higher divorce rates and more single parenthood - developments which would then be "impossible" to reverse. Mr Lim sought the Government's assurance that it is still committed to promoting and strengthening the institution of marriage.
