Louis Chua on Environmental Protection and Management (Amendment) Bill

12:04 Min

It is crucial not to lose sight of the big picture for urgent and bold actions that governments have to undertake to curb greenhouse gas emissions adequately to deal with the existential threat of climate change, said MP Louis Chua. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Sep 13), he said Singapore should be "that bright green spark" and show the world that despite its constraints, it can set ambitious and specific emissions reduction targets. He wanted to know if there is currently a set of goods which the Government plans to prescribe and regulate as greenhouse gas goods once the Environmental Protection and Management (Amendment) Bill is passed. He also asked about the Government's assessment of any possible impact the Bill and classification of the new greenhouse gas goods or works will have on companies.
