Louis Ng on Accountants (Amendment) Bill
In Parliament on Monday (Oct 3), MP Louis Ng asked about the recourse available to accounting professionals and firms who disagree with remedial actions or sanctions ordered by an oversight committee if they fail quality inspections. He noted that they can appeal to the High Court, but the costs of doing so can be significant. To help them better decide if this is necessary, he asked if the Public Accountants Oversight Committee will provide a written decision on the basis for its orders. Mr Ng also wanted to know the factors that will be considered in approving or rejecting requests for sensitive information to be redacted in court documents.
