05:37 Min

Singapore needs to tackle foreign disruptions to its domestic politics but there must be safeguards to ensure that it is fair and transparent in the way it restricts the activities of its people, said MP Louis Ng. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Oct 4), he sought clarifications on the consultation process for the Foreign Interference (Countermeasures) Bill. He asked how public feedback has featured in the proposed law. He also asked about the interval between the first and second readings of the Bill, raising concerns of some people who felt it was too short. He also sought clarification on what it means to act with covertness, deception or concealment. He asked the Home Affairs Ministry if it will release guidelines and illustrations on this to help with compliance.
