Louis Ng on Income Tax (Amendment) Bill
In Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 3), MP Louis Ng reiterated his previous calls to extend the Working Mother’s Child Relief to single unwed parents. He said his appeal is about making the policy fair and inclusive. Mr Ng also said that as Singapore looks to grow its presence as a regional or even global philanthropic hub, its efforts should not be “limited to the top tiers of society” - such as by piloting a 100 per cent tax deduction for overseas donations made by family offices. He urged the Government to consider what other tax measures can be used to encourage different forms of giving to local, regional and international causes. For example, it could explore how tax incentives can support individuals wanting to contribute to regional humanitarian causes, he said.
