Louis Ng on Lease Agreements for Retail Premises Bill

02:41 Min

With a Code of Conduct for retail space leasing described as a “living document”, how frequently is it likely to be modified, what will be the considerations for doing so and will public consultations be carried out? MP Louis Ng asked this in Parliament on Thursday (Aug 3). He said that while there should be flexibility, transparency and certainty for businesses are also important. Mr Ng also sought clarity on non-compliance with leasing principles and whether there are situations in which the entire lease will be void. If so, he wanted to know how the courts will determine what sums are due to the parties.
