Expand the disposable carrier bag charge to more, if not all, retail businesses, with a five-year roadmap to give them time to adjust their business models. Consider implementing the charge for online deliveries as well - in particular, deliveries by online grocers which are eroding the market share of brick-and-mortar supermarkets. These suggestions were made by MP Louis Ng in Parliament on Wednesday (Mar 22). He also brought up the potential impact of a beverage container return scheme on the livelihoods of those who collect cans for a living - many of them, seniors. He asked if this has been looked into and what support they will be given. Mr Ng also spoke about new requirements for building managers to report on food waste segregation and treatment. He asked if they could also report on the amount of food donated, as that is an even better way to handle excess food.
