Louis Ng on Women's Charter (Amendment) Bill
Rename the Women's Charter to "Family Charter" to make it more appropriate and to "reshape" minds, said MP Louis Ng. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Jan 10), he said the bulk of the law protects not just women but men and children, as well as families. Handling family and children-specific laws under the Women's Charter has an unintended effect of suggesting that women have some unique place in raising children and runs against the push to contribute equally at home and at work. He also suggested making flat applications easier for parents with shared control and mandating the Children in Between Programme for children of divorced parents.
