Maliki Osman on entry of ITE students to polytechnics under higher GPA requirement
The number of ITE Higher Nitec students progressing to polytechnics is expected to stay stable at about 4,000 a year after the minimum entry requirement is raised from a net Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 to 2.5 from the 2027 intake. This is because most Higher Nitec students admitted to polytechnics today already have a net GPA of 2.5 and above. Second Minister for Education Maliki Osman said this in Parliament on Thursday (Aug 3) in response to an MP’s question. He said ITE students wanting to go for a polytechnic diploma not mapped to their ITE course can apply through the Early Admission Exercise which allows them to seek admission based on aptitude and interest.
