Mariam Jaafar on Child Development Co-Savings (Amendment) Bill

08:38 Min

Realising the vision of a society where healthy equal parenting is the norm will require a systemic shift in workplace and social attitudes, said MP Mariam Jaafar. She offered three suggestions to achieve this. First - ensuring further protection against discrimination for those who take up any form of parental leave, possibly in the upcoming workplace fairness legislation. Second - promoting a workplace culture that supports families and greater opportunities for women. Third - tracking and publishing metrics to measure progress. These would include take-up rates for various forms of parental leave, shifts in attitudes, impact on workforce outcomes and birth rates. Ms Mariam spoke in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13).
