Mariam Jaafar on Health Information Bill
The Health Information Bill establishes a statutory framework governing how selected healthcare information is collected, accessed, used and shared - not just for medical treatment but also for community health, preventive care and population well-being, said MP Mariam Jaafar. Speaking in parliament on Monday (Jan 12), she said the bill strengthens the foundation of continuous care by ensuring that essential health information like medications, allergies and diagnoses can follow the patient. She also highlighted the areas that the Government Parliamentary Committee for Health will be keeping its eye on - access control, employment and insurance use, support for smaller providers, protection for doctors and allied health professionals, and cybersecurity and accountability.
