Mark Chay on Adoption of Children Bill
Will a proposed Adoption Suitability Assessment be a two-way process that is fair and transparent to potential parents even as it seeks to protect the child? Will the child’s medical, mental and emotional status be comprehensively evaluated and full disclosure provided to the prospective adopters? These questions were asked by NMP Mark Chay in Parliament on Monday (May 9). On the criteria for suitability to adopt, he said that while he respects current policies, he hopes that Singapore will be “a progressive nation” and begin to have conversations on non-traditional family units which might well be able to meet the needs of adopted children.
