Mark Chay on Building a Healthier SG

The sports, fitness and wellness community in the private sector has structured programmes to encourage healthier lifestyles and can customise offerings for groups such as seniors and people with chronic diseases. Making the point in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 5), NMP Mark Chay called on the Ministry of Health to engage these entities in its Healthier SG strategy. He asked about plans to train doctors and healthcare, sports and fitness professionals in prescribing exercise to people of all abilities, including those with special needs. Mr Chay also made the case for leveraging digital technology, such as by exploring how simulated and virtual sport can be used to track and increase physical activity, or how gaming and virtual reality can help those with diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s.
