12:11 Min

Much more can be done to support the sporting ecosystem and bridge the disparities between sports and para sports, said NMP Mark Chay in Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 5). He called for more donations, sponsorships and volunteers, which the ecosystem relies heavily on. He also urged the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth to work with the Singapore Disability Sports Council and Singapore National Paralympic Council to enable more persons with disabilities to pursue sport. Mr Chay, who is Yip Pin Xiu’s coach and a former Olympian himself, thanked all who supported her preparations for the Tokyo Paralympic campaign, which were made even tougher by the COVID-19 pandemic. He said her achievements are proof that Singapore can produce world-beaters.
