Mark Chay on National Symbols Bill

04:12 Min

During the debate on the National Symbols Bill in Parliament on Tuesday (Sep 13), NMP and former national swimmer Mark Chay asked about wearing the national flag on team kits. He wanted to know the process for National Sports Associations and other organisations to seek approval for the national flag or symbols to be on the team uniform, and whether there are guidelines on what type of national team can have such emblems on their uniform - if it is allowed for youth teams, for example. He also spoke of the significance of the national symbols and the immense pride they evoke in Singapore’s athletes, especially when competing overseas.
