Mark Chay on supporting healthcare

13:42 Min

The COVID-19 pandemic has showcased the bravery, dedication and selflessness of medical workers and the workforce at the forefront of fighting the virus, said NMP Mark Chay. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (May 10), he said as the pandemic subsides, the Government must continue to support medical workers, including in mental health. It should also invest in health and safety measures to protect medical workers for future pandemics. Mr Chay also called for more support for elite athletes, who often face intense physical and mental pressures which can affect their performance, long-term physical health and overall well-being. He pointed out that many athletes face significant social pressures which can lead to additional mental health problems, such as stress, burnout and poor self-confidence. Elite athletes need access to resources to help them cope with these pressures, such as sport psychology and mentoring, he said.
