Melvin Yong on Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill
The Cybersecurity (Amendment) Bill proposes to require companies that provide digital infrastructure services that are "foundational to our way of life" to shoulder responsibility for the cybersecurity readiness of such digital infrastructure. Obligations of companies under the Bill include adhering to cybersecurity codes and standards of practice, as well as reporting cybersecurity incidents to the Cyber Security Agency (CSA). MP Melvin Yong said this in Parliament on Tuesday (May 7). Mr Yong asked the Ministry of Communications and Information to share details about the incident-reporting parameters and cybersecurity codes of practice or standards for Foundational Digital Infrastructure. He also asked if the CSA intends to adopt any international standard to reduce compliance costs to businesses which would invariably pass such costs to consumers. He also wanted to know how the CSA intends to protect Singapore's information infrastructure from security vulnerabilities while ensuring that the cybersecurity requirements are not overly onerous to the point where workers and users find the IT systems unusable.
