11:31 Min

In Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 21), MP Melvin Yong paid special tribute to workers in the air, sea and land transport sectors. He said they “collectively kept Singapore connected, kept Singaporeans moving, and ensured that (the country continued) to have access to essential goods and services” from the start to the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Yong also described how Singapore’s tripartite partners - the Government, unions and corporations - came together to overcome crisis after crisis. These included saving jobs in aviation by redeploying staff to other critical sectors, facilitating maritime crew changes in Singapore to help hundreds of thousands of seafarers get home safely, enhancing infection control measures at bus interchanges and taking a firm stance against abusive public transport passengers.
