Motion for leave to introduce Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill

04:19 Min

In Parliament on Tuesday (Jul 2), MP Louis Ng sought leave to introduce a private member’s Bill - the Good Samaritan Food Donation Bill. It aims to encourage more food donations by protecting food donors from criminal or civil liability for any death or personal injury resulting from consuming donated food, provided certain conditions to ensure food safety and hygiene are met. Singapore has a food waste problem, said Mr Ng, which this Bill would help reduce while increasing the availability of food for redistribution to those who need it. He called it a Bill “by the people, for the people and for our planet”. The motion to introduce the Bill was passed.
