16:49 Min

In Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 29), Minister of State for Home Affairs and National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim shared some of the key concerns of the Malay-Muslim community with regard to the repeal of Section 377A and its possible implications. He made clear that there would be no change to laws and policies related to marriage, saying it is not the Government’s intention to cause a destabilising shift in society. Assoc Prof Faishal also addressed feedback from the community on protecting religious and family values and whether a push for LGBT rights will infringe on religious freedom. He emphasised that religious freedom must be balanced with mutual accommodation, respect and compassion in Singapore’s plural society, in order to maintain cohesion.
