Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on direct lift access for HDB blocks

06:09 Min

About 270 HDB blocks have benefitted from the Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP), within the cost cap. For some blocks, HDB exercised some flexibility and went beyond the cost cap to provide residents with direct lift access. But providing lifts for some of the remaining 150 blocks without full direct lift access would be very costly. In some cases, it could cost more than S$200,000 per household, "enough to buy another HDB flat", said Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. Replying to an MP's questions in Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 5), he said for these blocks, HDB will continue to explore new methods to bring down LUP costs. Those who need direct lift access due to medical conditions or mobility issues are eligible for the Lift access Housing Grant of up to S$30,000 when they buy another flat with direct lift access.
