02:07 Min

Government agencies are actively studying options to support people with disabilities to live independently in the community. A taskforce is looking into community living models and will consider existing gaps as well as new residential options. Its recommendations will be out next year. Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said this in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 29). He was answering an MP’s question on whether some Community Care Apartments (CCAs), a new housing-cum-care option for seniors, could be allotted to younger people with disabilities. Assoc Prof Faishal said two pilot CCA projects are still being built and will have to be evaluated once operational to ensure they support the intended target group before the Government can consider expanding the target segment.
