Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on incorporating Universal Design in older HDB blocks
Since 2006, all HDB developments have incorporated Universal Design to make them functional, accessible and safe, along with barrier-free features. For older blocks, such features are added where feasible when they undergo upgrading, said Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. Responding to an MP’s questions in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 5), he gave examples of upgrading and renewal programmes that improve lift access, support seniors and people with mobility issues such as by creating ramps and resting points, and enhance the safety of the elderly in their own homes.
