Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on inmates under Employment Preparation Scheme
A total of 339 inmates have been placed on the Employment Preparation Scheme since it was introduced in September 2022. They have to serve the tail-end of their sentence in a work release centre administered by the Singapore Prison Service. Those who are doing well and have support from their family may be allowed to go on weekend home leave or long home leave. As at Jan 31 this year, 71 of them have gone on or are currently allowed to go on weekend home leave. Another 35 have gone through or are currently on long home leave. So far, 204 of the 339 inmates have been released. Of these, 196 had secured employment at the point of release. Minister of State for Home Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said this in reply to Parliamentary questions on Friday (Feb 16).
