04:52 Min

Since 2006, HDB has been designing estates to be "user-friendly for all", said Minister of State for National Development Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 3). Universal design and barrier-free features include larger font sizes for block numbers, wider corridors to facilitate wheelchair movement and three-generation playgrounds. Senior-friendly features have also been installed in flats under the Enhancement for Active Seniors Programme, which has benefited more than 242,000 households as at end of September this year. In response to an MP’s questions, Dr Faishal also gave an update on the Wheelchair Lifter Pilot Scheme for flats that have steps leading to their entrances.
