Murali Pillai on Bus Safety Tripartite Taskforce
The Bus Safety Tripartite Taskforce has been collecting feedback from various groups since it was formed in July 2024. Its aim is to make further improvements to bus safety in areas such as safety protocols, staffing levels and work conditions, design of road infrastructure and use of technology. The taskforce has surveyed the public and bus drivers, held focus group discussions with commuters and road users, and visited all four bus operators in Singapore to understand their safety practices. It also engaged the Singapore Armed Forces' Transport Command to learn about safety initiatives for transport operators in the SAF. It will next engage international experts, overseas regulators and operators to identify best practices that the local public bus sector can adopt. It aims to complete its review by the first half of 2025. Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13) in reply to an MP’s questions.
