Murali Pillai on ensuring safety of commuters on public buses
Over the past 10 years, there were five bus passenger fatalities - four of them involved elderly commuters falling on board. Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai, who gave this update in reply to an MP’s questions in parliament on Tuesday (Apr 8), said the Land Transport Authority is working to enhance bus safety. These include introducing audio reminders on public buses to alert commuters that the bus is moving off, equipping buses with the technology to alert bus captains to potential safety risks and modifying public buses to reduce sharp acceleration that could cause commuters to lose their balance when the bus is moving off.
