Murali Pillai on Societies (Amendment) Bill

The Societies Act performs an important gatekeeping function, and there is clarity on the basis upon which the Registrar of Societies can reject applications for societies which are likely to be used for unlawful purposes or prejudicial to public peace, said MP Murali Pillai. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 4), he also sought clarifications on the Bill. These relate to the powers of the Registrar in the assessment of applications.
