Murali Pillai on Transport Sector (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
Steps will be taken to prevent inconsiderate behaviour by commuters on public buses and at bus interchanges, similar to what is done for MRT trains. A bill was moved for second reading in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 14) to provide for the powers to make such regulations. This is part of efforts to make the public transport system more secure and comfortable for all, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Murali Pillai. Also in the bill - allowing the Public Transport Council (PTC) to grant an application by bus operators to withdraw monies from the Fuel Equalisation Fund for reasons unassociated with that purpose; raising the maximum composition sum to S$10,000 from S$500 for point-to-point operators for breaches under the PTC Act; and empowering the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore to demarcate deposit sites for dumping of objects like dredged and reclamation materials and to charge for their use.
