Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivered his National Day Rally 2022 speech on Sunday (Aug 21) at the Institute of Technical Education headquarters in Ang Mo Kio. He announced that mask requirements will be eased in Singapore, such that it would only be needed on public transport and in healthcare settings. He also said the Government stands ready to do more to help Singaporeans amid rising inflation and explained that Singapore's external environment is now very troubled, with tensions between the US and China and the Ukraine war. He urged Singaporeans to be united and to be alert against foreign actors seeking to exert influence. He added that Singapore will repeal Section 377A which criminalises sex between men. At the same time, the Government will amend the Constitution to protect the definition of marriage, where currently only a union between a man and a woman is recognised. Mr Lee also gave a preview of Changi Airport's upcoming Terminal 5 and touched on the progress of Tuas megaport.
