New laws for RTS Link to outline powers for Malaysian immigration officers in Singapore
Commuters on the upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System will be able to clear immigration just once, when new laws are passed. The Cross Border Railways Border Control Co-Location Bill paves the way for immigration officers from both countries to be stationed at each end to ease checks. The bill is expected to be debated in May before being passed into law and implemented in June. Journeys between the two stations are expected to take about five minutes and can carry up to 10,000 passengers an hour in each direction. Aslam Shah reports.
