Ng Ling Ling on Community Disputes Resolution (Amendment) Bill
In Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 12), MP Ng Ling Ling said she was very supportive of giving the authorities the power to order mediation to resolve community disputes. However, she wondered how cases will be fairly evaluated to ensure that legitimate grievances are not dismissed as frivolous and conversely, how people can be protected from malicious complaints or becoming the target of retaliation if they had raised a complaint. Ms Ng also wanted to know what safeguards are in place to protect the confidentiality of individuals who are issued psychiatric treatment orders if they have mental health conditions that cause them to unreasonably interfere with their neighbours. She also asked what has been done to simplify the Community Disputes Resolution Tribunals process which can be perceived as tedious and costly.
