Ng Ling Ling on Protection from Scams Bill

09:26 Min

The Protection from Scams Bill represents a proactive step in protecting Singaporeans from the undue impact of scams which could result in irreversible losses for individuals, said MP Ng Ling Ling on Tuesday (Jan 7). Speaking in Parliament, she said that the Bill’s success depends on the ability to ensure that Restriction Orders are implemented effectively while striking a delicate balance in protecting individuals without overstepping into personal autonomy and responsibility. It should also minimise unintended consequences that may burden victims, while at the same time enhance public awareness and education, she said. Ms Ng also emphasised a need to adopt a collective approach involving financial institutions, telecommunication companies, technology platforms and individuals to combat scams comprehensively.
