Ng Ling Ling on Registration of Criminals (Amendment) Bill

12:18 Min

DNA and non-DNA identifying information have become useful tools for crime-solving but, as with the collection of any forms of personal data, there are ethical and privacy considerations to think of, said MP Ng Ling Ling in Parliament on Monday (Sep 12). She pointed to the collection of such samples from individuals with special needs, especially if use of force is required - noting that they should be considered vulnerable adults. Ms Ng also asked for details about the security of the DNA database, be it physical or in the cloud, and control of access; as well as what the response plan is, if any, in event of a breach.
