Ng Ling Ling on Women's Charter (Amendment) Bill

07:12 Min

Couples who have divorced must have closure and move on with their separate lives while continuing to build a pillar of support for their children, said MP Ng Ling Ling. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Jan 10), she wanted to know what safeguards are in place for marriages that can still be saved, as well as protection for those who may be pressured to agree to divorce. She also raised concerns that efforts to make the marriage process more convenient through digitalisation may dilute the significance of marriage. She asked what safeguards are in place against sending the wrong signals.
