Philippines unveils comic book to counter Beijing's narrative on disputed South China Sea
The Philippines has launched an educational tool that it hopes will raise awareness about what it sees as its territory in the disputed South China Sea. Authorities said the comic book is intended to explain concepts related to the West Philippine Sea. Filipino maritime experts helped to craft the text, which features a character called "Teacher Jun" explaining to students the country's sovereign rights over the waters. In the book, Teacher Jun also tells the students that Chinese actions in the West Philippine Sea — such as the use of water cannons — are illegal, coercive, aggressive and deceptive. Buena Bernal reports.
