Poh Li San on Resource Sustainability (Amendment) Bill

04:15 Min

Instead of charging for disposable carrier bags at supermarkets, Singapore should consider not providing plastic bags at all. This will encourage shoppers to bring their own recyclable shopping bags and prevent profiteering from the sale of plastic bags that were once given for free, said MP Poh Li San in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 21). She also spoke about a new beverage container return scheme, saying it is an opportunity to create new roles - for instance, by hiring seniors who used to collect discarded metal cans to manage collection stations.
