Protests, US tariff worries put pause on India's rice exports to top buyer Iran

Weeks of unrest in Iran have put a pause on exports of Indian basmati rice to Iran. Suppliers have become reluctant to sign new contracts with Iranian buyers, amid the civil unrest in the country. Trade officials said the uncertainty is due to fears of non-payment and potential additional US tariffs. US President Donald Trump had said that any country that continued trading with Iran would face new 25% levies on their exports to the US. India is Iran's largest rice supplier.
