Rachel Ong on Workplace Fairness Bill
Workplace Fairness Legislation is more than just a vision or a set of ideals - it must function as a practical and inclusive framework that truly works for everyone, said MP Rachel Ong. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 7), she stressed the need for a bridge that creates access and opens the door to equal opportunities. Ms Ong said if workplace fairness is the goal, then reasonable accommodations is the bridge to achieving it for persons with disabilities (PWDs). She also stressed the need to empower PWDs to thrive in their livelihoods, as well as foster equal opportunities not just in employment, but also in career growth and development. She called for legislated reasonable accommodations, saying remote or hybrid work arrangements are very much welcome for PWDs and their caregivers due to their unique needs. She also called for stronger support to ease the burden of inclusive hiring.
