Rahayu Mahzam on career development for pharmacy technicians

The Ministry of Health (MOH) works with public healthcare institutions to ensure that there are good career prospects and development opportunities for pharmacy technicians. Its Public Sector Pharmacy Technicians Career Development Pathway maps out their career progression, offering opportunities to take on expanded responsibilities across key areas such as patient care and medication safety. Minister of State for Health Rahayu Mahzam, who highlighted this in reply to an MP’s question in Parliament on Tuesday (Oct 15), said MOH will review the career progression pathway regularly and raise public awareness of the opportunities for pharmacy technicians. She pointed out that the starting salaries of pharmacy technicians in the public healthcare sector clusters were increased by nine per cent in 2023, with additional funding support from MOH. Salaries are reviewed regularly to ensure that they remain competitive, she added.
