Rahayu Mahzam on supporting fertility preservation for young cancer patients
Young cancer patients who want to undergo fertility preservation so that they can have children in the future can tap MediSave for egg freezing. If they get married and would like to use their eggs for Assisted Reproduction treatments, they can also use MediSave and receive Government co-funding support. The Ministry of Health will study extending more support to such patients separately from the MediShield Life review. This is as MediShield Life was designed to be a basic insurance scheme covering large bills for treatment of diseases in public hospitals, and bearing in mind there may be other medically necessary treatments for conditions besides cancer that could also affect fertility. Minister of State for Health Rahayu Mahzam said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 13) in reply to an MP’s question.
